Now playing: You Are Young

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JddEezXWf8Y]

Fearful child have faith in brighter days
Stay home ’til this darkness fades away
Lie still beside me
I’ll hold you now, I’ll hold you forever

Winter’s hand will freeze your heart again
Doors will close, no time to start again
Nothing is given
Except the ties that hold us together

Lay down your load
Cause every day it’s gonna grow
And bask in the sunshine
Try to pay no mind
Try to pay no mind at all

To all the things that you don’t know
You’ve got time to realize you’re shielded by the hands of love
Cause you are young

Fading light may make a fool of me
Courage fails, strengths slip away from me
Lie still beside me
And hold me now, and hold me forever

Lay down your load
Cause every day it’s gonna grow
These days are sacred
Hey now, don’t be scared
Baby, don’t be scared at all

Of all the things that you don’t know
You’ve got time to realize you’re shielded by the hands of love
Cause you are young
You’ve got time, you’ve got to try
To bring some good into this world
Cause you are young
Cause you are young

Oh-oh-oh…

Cause you are young

Bagetsafonik releases Bagetsafonik!

After the long wait, Bagetsafonik‘s self-titled second album is finally out! Twelve tracks burned into a CD lovingly packaged by the band themselves, I think your music library has a special spot for this album.

Read Vandals on the Wall’s review of the album.

When I went to buy my copy, Bagetsafonik gave me a hard time choosing which album cover I’ll get.

DARN IT.

The FFCPH 2011 playlist

Last weekend, at a pretty awesome web design conference, I was tasked to choose music to be played over the house speakers. (On the first day of the conference the venue soundtech was playing bossa nova, which, beautiful it may be, did not exactly match our attendees, nor the event theme.)

Making a fitting playlist to fit certain occasions has always been a challenge and a joy, but since I had about 30 minutes before the event started, it was also pretty daunting that day. As I rummaged into my library I thought I was able to make just a not-so-distracting selection of background music to eliminate dead air–but I was pleasantly suprised to have people asking me about the playlist, how I came up with it, and what else was on it. Thus, this blog post.

Song of the Day: Supposed to Be

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMjwAQ21opg]

Supposed to Be
Jack Johnson

Maybe it’s up with the stars
Maybe it’s under the sea
Maybe it’s not very far
Maybe this is how it’s supposed to be
This is how it’s supposed to be
Maybe it’s trapped in a jar
Something we’ve already seen
Maybe it’s nowhere at all
Maybe this is how it’s supposed to be
This is how it’s supposed to be
Looking forward as we rewind
Looking back is a trap sometimes
Being here is so easy to do
If you want to

Song of the day: Lost and Found

Chanced upon an episode—GASP! I actually watched TV on TV!—of Flashpoint today with my mom and brother. Like other times I’ve chanced upon Flashpoint, the one I caught today was a pretty good episode from last year; I want to grab a copy of the whole series now. Haha!

Like most TV series I like, Flashpoint has a good song selection for the final montages. Today’s episode has Lost and Found by Kim Taylor. Which is love.

Lost and Found
Kim Taylor

I’ve been lost and I’ve found
That when you get lost, you don’t look down
But you look above, yeah you look ahead
And you raise your hands to the sky instead
To the sky instead
When you run, when you try to hide
Stop and shake the dust from inside
And hold yourself like a little child
And swing your legs from the front porch swing for a little while
For a little while
You don’t know who will want to talk
Or who you’ll meet between now and then or where your feet will walk
But you look above, yeah you look ahead
And you raise your hands to the sky instead
To the sky instead

On repeat play: Do You Realize?? – The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize??I never liked double question marks— if repetition was necessary, I’d prefer three question marks instead of two, since three is a magic number—but there it is in the title of one of my favorite songs.

I listened to this a lot when I was in college. I distinctly remember one time I was studying for an Economics exam and I listened to this track, and only this track, over and over and over for hours.

This is today’s repeat play song, because I unearthed it in my library when I heard it on I Love You, Too. Which is a cute movie, by the way. When I blipped it, I discovered this beautiful piano cover.

Heard on the DKNY Be Delicious commercial: Does It Rain (Where You Are)

DKNY is celebrating the 5th birthday of Be Delicious!

Because of that, there have been more than several blogs holding contests to give away the yummy perfume. I’ve heard of Be Delicious many times, but I haven’t actually tried it. Seeing as my favorite scent is also fruit-based—I love Bench’s Bratsplash Kiwi Body Mist!—I joined the contests; who knows, maybe I’ll win, yes? 😀

So anyway. Because of these contests, I was reminded of the recent version of their advertisement again. Which in turn reminded me of the ear candy they used in the background.

I love, love, LOVE the music they used in the Be Delicious commercial! I can’t help but nod to it, and it sounds so light and fresh. I found myself replaying the video over and over in youtube just to listen to the song. Continue reading
