Although Ben Affleck has been, in my opinion, doing “just okay” for recently, he has come up with a movie he co-wrote, directed and starred in… and it is intense, well thought out, and, well, intense.

There are over 300 bank robberies in Boston every year. And a one-square-mile neighborhood in Boston, called Charlestown, has produced more bank and armored car robbers than anywhere in the U.S. It is against that backdrop that Warner Bros.’ new gripping thriller The Town is set.

Based on the novel Prince of Thieves written by Chuck Hogan, The Town a crime movie with just the right amounts of fist flying, bullets, and car chases, while balancing it with a solid story of drama and positivity. The characters are well-developed, back stories well established. This is a feat quite hard to do when you have more than several main characters walking around in the story, but the cast pulled it off wonderfully. It’s a fast-paced movie, but there were perfect moments of pauses and dramatic silence. It’s a gripping thriller, as the press release says; there were times when I couldn’t breathe in my seat!

I think it can be something my dad would like (he loves action movies, and falls asleep watching anything else), and also my mom (movies with good stories are for her), and for my brothers, too! It’s far from being a family movie—far from it! Keep your kids away! But I think most everyone over 13 will find The Town to be an excellent one.

Starring Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm. Also starring Blake Lively, Oscar® nominee Pete Postlethwaite and Academy Award® winner Chris Cooper. The Town opens October 6, 2010 in Philippine theaters. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
