Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to DSWD we go~
Yesterday, Kuya JB, Ate Steph and I (with a bunch of other guys from Victory QC) headed on over to DSWD to volunteer repack relief goods for Ondoy and Pepeng victims.
There’s a long background to this. When I first read that blog post, I felt annoyed, angry and disappointed. But even though I wanted to do something about it, I wasn’t sure what I could do. (Read the blog post to know why I wasn’t sure if we could just show up in DSWD to volunteer.) Enter Gang Badoy and Rock Ed. They worked with DSWD and mobilized a hundred plus (I think) volunteers to DSWD to help. And yey, the bayanihan energy was like Ondoy week all over again!
There were about forty of us last night, one assembly line on each side of two tables.
Plastic -> +1 Rice -> +2 packs Noodles -> +2 small canned food -> + 1 big canned food -> knot plastic -> pack in sack
It was awesome how, even though most of the volunteers didn’t know each other, we were laughing and stuff as we worked, it was as if we were all already best friends. Oh, and add OK Go, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Sandwich playing in the background.
The relief goods we packed were to go to the North, for the communities affected by Pepeng. We finished at around 10, even though we signed up to work until 11. It’s because we worked faster than expected, yey! I’m not sure how many we packed. We just kept going and going and going, and even when we finished, we still felt like we could go on! Hehe. I’m pretty sure Gang will post the numbers soon. Check out her blog.
Guys, if you have time (which I’m sure you do) go and volunteer at least once at DSWD. You can fill out the sign up form, although you can also just show up to help! Here’s a map to DSWD. We went straight after work — as you can see in the first photo, I was still in my office uniform.
We’ll most probably go back there next week. Text or email me if you guys wanna come with!

Sarah! It was great seeing you and JB there! when are you going to be back?
Thursday… That’s today! See ya!
