I've been taking voice lessons in the UP College of Music during the past semester, and yesterday was our recital. Despite my efforts in avoiding it, I ended up singing On My Own, which is, albeit a beautiful song, not one I originally wanted to sing because it's so...typical. (Not to say that I didn't like the song; I LOVE it!) But, yeah, it ended up being my recital piece.

Anyway, as usual for my Saturday mornings, I woke up early to prepare for vocalization with my teacher. It was set to 8:30 AM, so I had lots of time afterwards to hang out in the cafeteria with the other students. Had good conversations about college and stuff. (And, again, they thought I was their age. Heeheehee.) Ten o'clock rolled around soon enough, and we got into our costumes (nyehe) and made our way to the hall.

My parents got there right on time. Not too early, not too late. My parents took seats in the first row. Beth and Lori arrived later.

Here's the video of my performance. It didn't come out as cleanly as I'd have wanted, but it'll have to do for a first recital.

I have mixed feelings about watching the video. It's weird to watch myself, and it's irritating to see the mannerisms I should get rid of, but I guess it's good. I mean, now I can clearly see what I need to improve, vocally and otherwise. Heh.

My "classmates" (and I write that with quotation marks because they're technically not my classmates, but we're under the same teacher) had angelic voices, especially Jennifer, the one sitting to my right. MAN she was good. My friends there were all advanced students, actually. I was the only newbie in that row. Haha! But they were very supportive of me, though :)

One of our classmates was weird. She didn't come for the vocalization, and she arrived in the middle of the recital. And since there was just one door, she had to pass right in front of the one singing to get to her seat. Argh. I feel sorry for the one performing at that time. I wonder how her video turned out.

But, anyway. After the recital I shed my dress and got into the usual shirt+jeans combo. But not before I got a few photos taken with the amigas! I wish I had a photo with my family, though. We kind of forgot about it amidst the excited chatter about the recital hehe.

After that I had to go to music team practice. I was late, but it was fine because I only missed vocalization. And, well, I've been vocalizing the whole morning, so I didn't really miss anything.

It was a pretty long day, starting out early and ending with pouring rain, but it was good. I'm really glad to get a break from waking up extra early on Saturdays (I wake up earlier on Saturdays than I do on weekdays) but, at the same time, I can't wait to get back to voice class next sem!
