and so, another storm approaches
Seems like another typhoon is on its way to visit the Philippines. As much as students can look forward to classes being suspended—and as much as I can look forward to staring out in the rainy afternoon, being all melancholic—it’s still something pretty disastrous, even if it’s not quite a 185kph Xangsane.
Typhoon2000.com says that, as of 8pm on July 10th (yesterday), Typhoon Man-yi (aka Bebeng) is hurling 130kph winds and is moving 20kph NW… And that, um, Manila, among others, is a possible strike target.

Yeah, yeah, so it’s possible that the Bebeng might swerve North and won’t hit land, or maybe it would suddenly weaken… But still, we’ve already got flooding here in Quezon City, and we’re a relatively high place. So, while we here at the office are trying to figure out whether or not night shifters are going to get a day off in case the typhoon hits (and I’m like, “Heck, YES we’ll get a day off! Are you friggin’ insane?!), I can’t help but wonder how people in Navotas are doing. And especially Davao, which Bebeng is whipping her tail at this very moment.
-sigh- So I guess this means that typhoon season is about to start, eh?
EDIT: July 12, 2007
At 2 a.m. today, Typhoon “BEBENG” was located based on satellite and surface data at 820 kms East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan (19.9°N, 130.0°E) or at 830 kms East Southeast of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It is forecast to move northwest at 26 kph. (source: PAGASA)
Yey. It’s moving out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility. But I can only pray for Japan, as it seems like they’re the most threatened by this typhoon. Here in the Philippines, PAGASA says the typhoon would induce the southwest monsoon and bring heavy rains to Visayas and Mindanao.

Hello Princess from an old guy in FLorida.
Can you please tell me what the word/name ‘bebeng’ means?
Thanks and Best Wishes…hop all you folks are OK!
It doesn’t mean anything, really. Just a mix of letters that could sound like a name. ^_^
And, yes, we’re okay here. Thanks for asking!
